The Lunar Screen is a versatile, handcrafted wood screen that merges traditional craftsmanship with modern design influences. Inspired by the Italian architect Carlo Scarpa, it reinterprets the Japanese folding screen with a Brutalist European aesthetic.
Crafted from American yellow pine panels, the screen is finished using Yakisugi, a traditional Japanese technique of scorching wood for preservation. Each panel is inset with a striking “moon” of burnt gesso—a process that creates a textured, molten surface marked with cracks and craters, resulting in a one-of-a-kind finish. Custom patinated brass sphere pin hinges and capping plates complete the design.
The Lunar Screen functions as both a room divider and a large-scale architectural mural, adding depth and character to any space.
