NEW YORK- Wexler Gallery is pleased to announce our participation in Collective 2, a design fair in New York City that will present a cohesive, curated selection of contemporary design and historical pieces from galleries around the world. The second edition will be held at the Skylight at Moynihan Station on West 33rd Street and will coincide with Frieze New York and the Contemporary art auctions. Collective Design Fair will run from May 8-11th 2014.
This year our booth will focus on limited edition design pieces and sculptural glass works that present a dialogue and unique exploration of materials, processes and concepts. Featured works include bronze furniture by Philadelphia based sculptor Gregory Nangle, a new body of streamlined steel work by industrial designer Vivian Beer, an ornamental glass chandelier by Portland-based glass artist Andy Paiko and paintings in glass by Brooklyn glass artist Jamie Harris.
In addition to our exciting offerings, we are pleased to announce exclusive representation of the dynamic Danish-Argentine duo HildenDiaz in the US. On the heels of a successful reception abroad with their monumental “City on Fire” installations, HildenDiaz introduces the newest realization of their unique collaboration to the US art world by showcasing their 3D-printed chandelier Forms in Nature and Mirrors of Contemplation at Wexler Gallery Booth B9 during Collective.

Forms in Nature by HildenDiaz
Inspired by drawings by Darwinian naturalist Ernst Haeckle, the chandelier is ripe with root and tree branch imagery, casting an atmospheric shadow transforming any interior into a natural landscape. The shadows act like mirrors on the wall playing out patterns and events that might only exist in our minds. The light is controlled in the center allowing for degrees of luminosity and visual intensity.
Mirrors of Contemplation by Hilden Diaz
Interested in the primordial relationship between man and fire, HildenDiaz uses images of flames, smoke, fire and ash to illicit visceral reactions in the public space. The mirrored works are made from compressed charcoal, carbon, wood, paper and other organic materials. The ash is encased in mirrored-glass frames, allowing the viewer to be seen through the organic layers of the ash- a truly thought-provoking and transformative experience for the viewer.
Cleaving Credenza by Gregory Nangle
Distinctly industrial in process and aesthetic, Gregory uses bronze and tung oil to weld a custom credenza as part of his Cleaving series. Referencing sharp, geometric angles Nangle’s Cleaving series has become a popular favorite among designers, suitable for indoor and outdoor spaces.
Vivian Beer’s Streamliner series
As a departure from her Infrastructure series, where the symbolism of the material and pattern was directly related to transport and passageways, the units in Streamliner are made exclusively of metal and are rooted in the concept of speed and motion. Drawing inspiration from the 1930’s Art Moderne movement, Beer replaces sharp edges with simple dynamic curves to create a streamlined and aerodynamic effect, hinting at ideas of action and acceleration.
Glass works by Andy Paiko
Named a 40 Under 40 Craft Future by the Smithsonian’s Renwick Gallery, Andy Paiko is pushing the boundaries of glass in his new endeavors which include sculptural Absinthe dispensers and a custom-made glass chandelier. Paiko’s modular canopy includes a bevy of blown glass forms, brass chains and wooden elements.
Infusion series by Jamie Harris
Born from an experiment as a resident at the Corning Museum of Glass, carved and polished glass sculptures with overlapping fields of color are Harris’ newest creative pursuit. Each piece is uniquely rendered with detailed layers of color that mimic the movement and experience of working with hot glass.
Sleek design by Timothy Schreiber
An architect by training, Timothy Schreiber creates one-of-a-kind and limited edition pieces inspired by forms and patterns found in natural world. Simultaneously organic and geometric in aesthetic, his sleek forms bare highly polished surfaces, a result of seamless production techniques. Our booth will feature his cast glass and stainless steel works, including the E-volve Table produced by Dutch high-end manufacturer FueraDentro.
Fascinated by the notion of challenging the traditional labels that categorize art, Wexler Gallery exhibits work that can coexist in the worlds of design, fine art, decorative art and craft. By questioning and challenging the boundaries of these fields, we aim to present functional and non-functional work that consistently celebrates innovation.
